CALEDONIAN AFFAIRS

SOCIETY’S ANNUAL MEETING ELECTION OF OFFICERS The ajmual meeting of the Whakatane Caledonian Society saw a good muster of members in the Society’s Hall last Monday evening, over which Chief W. J. Simons presided. The meeting was remarkable for the number of elections which were necessary for various officers, and for the fact that after eight years consistent service in office as Chief, Mr W. J. Simons was replaced by Mr D. Anderson. The report and balance sheet were read and adopted, the latter showing a credit balance of £6 18s 3d, and assets of a very substantial nature.

The election of officers resulted: — Patron: Mr J. Grant. Chief: Mr D. Anderson.

Chieftains: Messrs. W. J. Simons and D. Paterson.

Secretary and Treasurer: Mr W G. Hurst.

Executive: Messrs. Te HiraFergusson, J. Alexander, C. F. Thomas, C. Kingsley-Smith, and H. Mole. Pipe Major: Mr D. Paterson.

Band Committee: Pipe Major Paterson, Drum Major Mole, Pipe Sergeant Fergusson, Messrs. TeH. Fergusson and W. Howat, Sen.

Social Committee: Miss M. Howat, Miss D. Stewart, Miss B. Mole, Miss Jean Howat, Mrs J. King Sen., Mrs C. F. Thomas, Mrs J. King Jun., Mrs K. Fergusson, Mrs Hurst and Mrs Flint, Messrs. C. F. Thomas, G. Paterson and T. Dockray. Chaplain to Society: Rev. H. M. Bell.

Hall Committee: The Secretary, Chief and two Chieftains.

Caretaker: Mrs J. King,

■Auditor: Mr Andrew Nicol.

Various reports were given on the activities of the Society’s departments as under: Young Caledonians —Mr George Paterson, and Band— Mr K. Ferguson. The meeting concluded with a light supper served by the ladies.
