RABBITING WORK
PONGAKAWA BOARD INSPECTOR’S REPORT At the last meeting of the Pongakawa Rabbit Board, the Inspector, Mr C. H. Davis, reported'that work had' been carried out on a number of private properties together with Crown lands in Valley Road, Edgecumbe, Tarawera and Coast areas, and Native lands in Awakaponga, Edgecumbe, Lakes, Tarawera and Galatea areas. 11,500 acres had been poisoned and 10,890 acres fumigated. The report continued as follows: “During this period the weather 'has been very unsettled and we have had heavy rain on a large area of country. Some of the country that has already been poisoned has had to be re-poisoned. In some cases we have had fairly good results after the poison has been well soaked. Young rabbits are now running in most parts of the Board’s area; but they are not by any means as numerous as they were last spring and in many places that were formerly badly infested, there are very few to be found. lam not afraid of any great increase during this andnext month, which, in these parts, I consider to be our worst period of the year.”
