WHAKATANE v OPOTIKI SATURDAY’S BENEFIT GAME V ‘ - : ’ ' ■ • Two club teams, Whakatane and Opotiki City team met on Saturday in a friendly game arranged as a benefit match for the St. John’s Ambulance Brigade, in the Whakatane Domain. The game was solid throughout but not as spectacular as some seen this season. Shortly after the game opened it became evident that the Whakatane Club was the superior team, positional play being well maintained. After twenty minutes pressure R. Cox netted for Whakatane. The pace was maintained and Whakatane sent several shots wide of the goal. Play see-sawed back and forth until a determined run by Whakatane culminated in Hammond finding the net. Whakatane was again straight back into the circle and Cox netted. Half-time score, Whakatane . 3, Opotiki 0.

Whakatane again pressed Rigden netting twice in succession Play went downfield and after consistently good play T. Mokomoko netted for Opotiki. The ball was carried back and Anderson goaled for Whakatane. Final whistle found the score Whakatane 6, Opotiki City 1.
