WAIMANA NEWS

GIFT EVENING A very happy evening was spent in the Waimana Hall recently in of the approaching marriage of Miss Bessie Bell. Mr and Mrs King supplied the dance music, and Mr A. Bell played an extra. Mr F. Sterling carried out the duties of M.C. very capably. The lucky Gay Gordons was won by Mr C. Wylde and Miss Bessie Bell, and the Monte Carlo Waltz was won by Mr and Mrs A. Mortenson.

After a dainty supper had been served, Mr C, Wylde on behalf of all present wished Miss Bell every happiness and good luck in the future mentioning at the same time her period of service in the W.A.A.F. He then asked her to come forward and accept the many useful and beautiful gifts from her friends. Mr Alexander McDonald,, on behalf of Miss Bell, suitably replied thanking everyone for the very happy evening, and also for the useful gifts. The National Anthem later in the evening brought the function to a close. UNVEILING CEREMONY NUKUHOU SCHOOL FUNCTION An afternoon ceremony was held at the Nukuhou North School recently, the occasion being the unveiling of a “Roll of Honour” pi’esentecl by Mr F. J. Savage.

The ceremony was conducted jointly by the Rev. Liggett of Opotiki and Rev. Nummy, Taneatua, whilst the address was given by Rev. Ligget. The Roll of Honour, the names of all the old pupils of the school who served overseas.in the war, from 1939-45. These reads as follows: Sargent, H.; Larsen, W.; Ruff, H. A.; Guilde, N.; Guilde, T.; Ruff, J.;- Menzies, J. C.; Anderson, A. C.; Ruff, I. R. V. (K.1.A.); McPartland, T.; Burnett, K. G.; Spanhake, W. H.; Macdonald, L.; Ruff, A.; Proffit, A. S.; Jones, C. T.; Breingan, J. F.; Cranswick, J.; Savage, T. J. (K.1.A.); Burnett, B. L.; Jones, W. H.; MacLennon, J.; Flint, G. H.; Macdonald, W.

The unveiling was performed by Michael Ruff and wreaths were laid by pupils at the conclusion of the ceremony.

PERSONAL Mr and Mrs McDonald, of Petone, were recent guests of Mrs F. H. Bell, Waimana.
