SUCCESSFUL BALL

JUNIOR 'NATIONAL PARTY CLUB

WELL-ATTENDED FUNCTION

Comfortably filling the Winter Show Buildings, a large and enthusiastic crowd of patrons from many parts of town and district attended the ball sponsored by the newly-formed Junior National Party Club last Friday evening. From start to finish the function was an unqualified success, and congratulations are due to the club for the splendid manner in which they conducted this, the first of their public social activities.

As always, the lively personality of bandleader Freddie Burt, whose orchestra was engaged for the occasion, was a-distinct asset, and one of the main contributing factors towards the undoubtedly happy spirit of the occasion.*

The preparation and work which club members had put into ensuring that the event would be one well remembered, was apparent from the moment one stepped inside the hall. The whole of the interior of the building was beautifully decorated with palm fronds and other greenery touched in appropriate places with splashes of colour supplied by decorated lilies. Strings of coloured lights hung across the hall, and behind the soft glow created by them, were national flags and bunting. A white placard with the letters N.P. embossed in blue crepe hung above and behind the orchestral dais, a signature to the colourful work below.

Supper, which was in greater part home-cooked, was a treat for everyone, and the ladies committee responsible for its service must be highly commended. Dancing was continuous throughout the evening, and when Freddie’s ‘last dance’ bracket started the floor was still well filled.

We must repeat that the club is deserving of the highest congratulations, and we, like many others, are firm in our resolve to attend the next.
