COMING OF AGE

PARTY AT TE TEKO MISS JOANNA ANDERSON On Thursday, September 26, the dance hall at Kokohinau Pah, Te Teko, was the scene of a very happy function when Mr and Mrs Leo Anderson entertained approximately 200 guests in honour of the 21st birthday of their second daughter, Joanna. Mrs Anderson, who received her guests in a navy blue ensemble, was assisted by, Joanna who looked very charming in a scarlet flowered crepe frock enhanced by white flowers in her hair and corsage. Joanna was the recipient of very many lovely gifts which were displayed on a long table across one corner of the room.. Dancing was the order of the evening and with the Rhythm Stars Orchestra providing the music the floor was crowded with happy dancers until a halt was called for the serving of a delicious supper to which every one did full justice. After supper, Mr Eruera Manuera spoke first in Maori then in English of the great pleasure Mr and Mrs Anderson and their family felt in seeing so many of their friends, both Maori and Pakeha gathered together in honour of their daughter. In replying on behalf of the Pakehas present Mr Maeken stressed the great respect and affection felt for Mr and Mrs Anderson by all who knew them not only for themselves but also for the very active and untiring part they had taken in all Patriotic work during the war. Mr Anderson in reply thanked all his friends for making Joanna’s party such a success and then touched humorously on the trials of a father whose family had developed the habit of reaching the age of 21 at frequent intervals. He then presented Joanna with the traditipnalkey of freedom in the form of a gold brooch.

In replying for the guest of honour Mr Tatt Anderson expressed his appreciation for all her friends and parents had done for her and then called on Joanna to blow out the candles on the handsome iced cake which had been made and decorated by her aunt, Mrs Peter Anderson. Joanna successfully carried out the act and after the cake had been served to the guests dancing continued until the early hours of the morning.
