LIQUOR OFFENCES

POLICE PROSECUTIONS NATIVES'SUPPLIED A number of offences in connection with liquor were dealt with in the Whakatane Court last Tuesday before Mr E. L. Walton, S.M. Sergeant Farrell prosecuted for the police in each case. Raymond Bluett appeared on two charges, one of introducing liquor, namely 10 gallons of beer, into the Wairaka Maori pah, and another of supplying a Maori, Dave' Mason, with liquor for consumption off licensed premises. Fines of £2 with costs (12s) and £2 (costs 10s) respectively, were inflicted. In the same connection, Dave Mason was charged with assisting Ray Bluett in supplying a native, namely himself, and was fined £2 with costs amounting to 17s. Being found in the Commercial Hotel after hours cost Joseph William Butterworth and Dave Mason the sum of £1 each.

Lawson Crapp, who removed liquor from the Whakatane Hotel after hours was fined £2 and costs (12s), whilst Andy Ratene (Mr Otley) suffered fines of £T and costs 275) and £1 (10s) for two breaches of a prohibition order (procuring liquor, and entering licensed premises).
