Sea Scout Marksmen Members of the Achilles Sea Scout Unit tasted their first 'test in rifle shooting recently, when under special supervision and upon a short distance range they put up some remarkable points. With a possible of 20 and in a four-shot contest details were as under: Colin Morpeth 19, Melville Love 17, Warwick Spring 19, Alan Delahunty 16, Trevor Stewart 19, Michael Phillips 10, Merlin Smith 19, Trevor Dawson 16, lan Francis 15, Brian Hume 19, Graham Howard 18.
New Ford Reaches Whakatane A large number of interested members of the public of Whakatane and district, assembled at the showroom of Messrs. Armstrong and Co’s, garage in Commerce Street on Friday evening • last, where the hew 1946 Ford V 8 was on display. The new car attracted much attention, and it certainly warranted it. A better looking job would be hard to imagine. From the interest shown, there can be no doubt that as soon as supplies become available, a large number will make their appearance on Whakatane roads.
Saturday’s Football A further challenge match for the Pile Memorial Cup, at present held by Paroa, will take place in' the "V Whakatane Domain on Saturday next at 2.15 p.m. This time the challengers will be the Waikite team from Rotorua (the leading local team in its Union). Considerable interest attaches the game in view of the challenger’s reputation as a
sound and hard-playing combination. Some one hundred and twentysupporters from the Geyser Village >; are expected, and there is some speculation as to whether Paroa will be able to maintain its unbroken line of victories. *
