FANCY DRESS BALL
TANEATUA AND OPOURIAO SCHOOL CHILDREN’S FUNCTION A recent function of note was a highly successful Children’s Fancy Dress Ball which took place in the Taneatua Hall. After the Grand March which displayed the colourful costumes to advantage, dance items were creditably performed by the children of the Taneatua and Opouriao Schools. Competitive games added zest to the evening for the little ones, while the elder kiddies took part in a Children’s Monte Carlo and Spot Waltz.
Winners of competive items were: Musical Bumps: Kathleen Soutar, Jack Wati. Musical Arms: Betty Hayward, Cedric Green. Spot Waltz: June Gardner, Barry Anderson. Monte Carlo: Rosemary Reid, Leon Ducker.
A particularly interesting part of the programme was that given over to Folk Dancing. Items in this section were supplied by the Infants of Taneatua and Opouriao (Jenny Crack Corn) Stds. 1 and 2; Stds. 5 and 6; the Opouriao seniors (Wild Goose Chase); and Taneatua (Maypole).
An excellent supper was provided by the Women’s Institute and the parents. The evening concluded for the children with the distribution of bars of chocolate. - >
