ROD & GUN AFFAIRS
WHAKATANE CLUB At a recent committee meeting of the Whakatane Rod and Gun Club it was reported that the newly appointed Conservator of Fish and Game (Mr S. N. McNamara) would attend a meeting of shooters and fishermen .in this district if the club would arrange a date. It was also stated that the Department was prepared to sign-post the rivers as recommended at the recent meeting of fishermen called by the club. Discussion took place concerning the Huntly Club’s activities in liberating fingerlings and it was reported that the last lot measured from 9 to 12 inches.
The secretary asked that all persons knowing of shag rookeries, report their location in order that the forthcoming shag shoot could 'be -organised. It was decided to hold a full day working bee on the club’s shooting grounds on Saturday, October 5, in order to get the grounds and pavilion in good order for the forthcoming Labour weekend shoot.
All members who can do so, are asked to attend and bring a hammer, shovel and if possible a paint brush.
