BRIGHT TE TEKO GATHERING TWELFTH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATED On September 10 the Te Teko Hall which had been decorated by Mrs Hallet was the scene of a birthday party, given by members to celebrate the 12th birthday of the Te Teko branch ,of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union. In welcoming the visitors the president, Mrs Pryor, spoke of the pleasure it gave her and the local members to entertain so many visitors including members from Awakeri W.D. and from Thornton, Matata, Edgecumbe and, Otakiri Women’s Institute. Mrs Pryor explained that this year there would not be the usual birthday cake as the Te Teko members had decided to donate the cost of the cake to the Food for Britain Appeal.
The afternoon’s entertainment was commenced with a whistling' solo by Mrs Cannell, followed by songs by Mrs Smith and Mrs Thompson and recitations by Mrs Carr. Interspersed in the programme were competitions which with an amusing ‘musical crackers’ number in which teams sang popular melodies, passes the time away. A driving competition was won by the Awakeri team composed of Mesdames liaultain, Wilson and Burr. A flower and produce stall and raffles were well patronised. A delicious afternoon tea followed by the singing of the National Rnthem concluded a very pleasant afternoon.
