YOUNG FARMERS

THORNTON CHUB RECENT MEETING At the August meeting of the Thornton Young Farmers’ Club Mr E. R. Marryatt, Fields Instructor for the Department of Agriculture, gave several short and interesting lectures. The subjects were “Pasture Management,” “Lime,” “Bloat and its control,” “Land cress and its control.” At the September meeting Mr F. Barwell gave a lantern lecture on “The boar, sow and litter production.” Several members of the club also attended a lecture at Awakeri when Mr Sorensen, of W. & R. Fletcher and Co. gave a lecture on “Nuti’ition of pigs and calves.” 'ln the near future a party from the club will be making a visit to the Ruakura Research Farm. A football match was played against Otakiri Y.F.C. Thornton/ win the match by 17 points to 3. On Wednesday, October 2, the club will be holding a dance to celebrate the first anniversary of its formation. The next meeting of the club will be held on Monday, October 7. Mr Hume, Orchardisf Instructor Department of Agrciulture, will be present to give a lecture.

Five new members have been enrolled in the last two months.
