WHAKATANE v THORNTON [ VISITORS WIN ON POINTS An interesting evening was spent recently by members of Whakatane and Thornton Badminton Clubs when a series of matches were arranged between teams from the two centres. The games took place in Whakatane, and resulted in a win for Thornton on points, games being equal at 6 all. Detailed results are as under, Thornton players being mentioned first in each case:— Combines: Mrs Robins and Hyland lost to Miss'J. Howat and Wilson 8-21; Miss Davis and Peni lost to Miss Rivett and J. Howat 16-21; Miss N. Hyland and Law beat Miss Haultain and Timbs 21-18; Mrs Law and Marks beat Miss Cannell and Hansen 21-6; Miss Davis and Mexted lost to Miss Francis and Hunt 6-21; Miss Mitai and Davis lost to Mrs Wiggins and Mole 13-21. Men’s Doubles: Hyland, and Peni lost to Wilson and Howat 12-21; Marks and Law beat Timbs and Hansen 21-12; Davis and Mexted lost to Hunt and Mole 15-21. Ladies’ Doubles: Mrs Robins and Miss Law beat Miss Howat and Miss Rivett 21-11; Miss Hyland and Miss Davis beat Miss Francis and Miss Haultain 21-0; Miss Davis and Miss Mitai beat Miss Cannell and Mrs Wiggins 21-11.
