The two men mentioned, it was pointed out, were likely, to be called out at any time of the day or night, and needed their vehicles therefore, at their homes.

The Whakatane County Council" declined, at it’s last meeting, the offer of Messrs. Andersen and'Neilsen of an Adams grader, ex-South Pacific. It was intimated that the machine’s present condition warranted a new set of tyres at an approximate cost of £350, and an overhaul and repaint at another £350. The grader was offered as it stood for immediate delivery at £1,190, or r’econdi- < tioned and delivered in two months at £1,890. > Purchase of Sodium At the last meeting of the Whakatane County Council, the County Clerk (Mr C. G. Lucas) reported that on account of the ragwort grant, the Council had in stock approximately 64 tons of sodium and a consignment in transit, ’ 9 tons of stadium was held for private - sale. The Council also had on order 6 tons of atlacide for delivery in November next. Opourigo Dairy Factory had on hand 7 tons of stadium and the company was anxious to dispose of such in one lot at the current price. The Council decided to purchase the 7 tons and' to lift the restrictions on sodium purchases from the Council.
