SOCIAL AND DANCE A popular Social and Dance held by the Waimana-Nukuhou Women's Institute last Monday evening, was thoroughly enjoyed by all present. Several sketches and interludes mostly humorous were a feature of the, evening. Mrs J. Mitchell arranged the social part of the programme and produced the sketches. Mr and Mrs King supplied the dance music, and Mr A. Bell obliged with the supper extra. The dinners for competition were donated by members, and were won by Mr J. Leather and Ross Macdonald. Another competition waswon by Miss Muriel Spanhake and Mrs McColl. The Monte Cai'lo waltzes were won by Mr and Mrs Mortenson and Miss N. Rust and partner. Mr D. Woolfield made a most capable M.C. and Mr S. Eagle was doorkeeper. Dancing continued until midnight when the National Anthem closed a successful function. WOMEN’S INSTITUTE ———— » GARDENING CIRCLE The September meeting of the Waimana-Nukuhou Women’s Institute gardening circle, was held at Mrs King’s home last Wenesday afternoon. - There was a very good attendance of members, and Mrs King presided. Mrs R. White gave an interesting reading on how to crystalise flowers and on how the names of several commonly known flowers originated. A competition, guessing the number of maize seeds in a bottle was won by Mrs Hughes and Mrs C. Hampton, whilst another competition, guessing names of vegetables, was,also won by Mrs Hughes and Mrs Wylde. A discussion on the growing of carrots and tulips followed. The entries for the day’s competitions were numerous and of good standard, the results being as follows:—Best flower: Mrs Hampton 1; Mrs Macdonald 2; Mrs Cooper 3. Best vegetable: Mrs S. Eagle 1; Mrs Macdonald 2; Mrs R. White 3. Best three daffodils: Mrs Wylde 1; Mrs Hughes 2; Mrs S. Eagle 3. Decorated egg cup: Mrs Wylde 1; Mrs Hampton 2; Mrs Woolfield 3. . After members had a walk round the garden, afternoon tea was served by Mrs S. Eagle and Mrs Wylde. The next meeting it was intimated would be held at Mrs Macdonald’s home.
