QUOTA EXCEEDED
NATIONAL SAVINGS INVESTMENT WHAKATANE’S PROUD POSITION Whakatane cannot be accused of laxity as far as its response to the National Savings appeal is concerned. For the year to date £11,543 8s has been subscribed exceeding the full annual quota of £11,128 by £406 Bs. This is a remarkable accomplishment in view of the fact that only half the present year (financial) has expired and it appears more than likely that this district will double its quota by the end of March 1947. Investments received at the local Post Office during the period 16th21st inst. amounted to no less than £1027. The maximum amount that may be invested in any account during any one investment period (Ist July-30th June yearly) is £I,OOO and as interest at the rate of 3 per cent, is payable these accounts are proving particularly popular with the public generally. The interest on Post Office Sav-ings-bank deposits is 2£ per cent, up to £SOO and 2 per cent, from £SOO to £2,000.
