WIIAKATANE ASSOCIATION ANNUAL MEETING • The annual general meeting of the Whakatane Cricket Association was held in the Borough Council Chambers last week, delegates from the Whakatane United, Paroa, and Taneatua Clubs being present together with other interested members of the public. In a report of the year’s work, Mr. J. D. Rivett outlined briefly the activities of the Association and it was shown that a fair measure of progress had been made. The election of officers which was proceeded with resulted as under: Patron: Mr. R. S. Cleland; President: Mr. N. E. Rigden; Vice-presi-dents: Messrs N. Me. G. Bremner, F. Burt, Senr., A. K. Day, J. Gillam, G. H. Mackley, O. V. Marx, J. D. Rivett, S. S. Shapley, H. G. Warren, C. L. Hudson, E. B. Hay, C. S. Armstrong, W. Tyssen, L. R. Spring, G. Lodge, E. Loomes, C. R. Whittle, A. J. Mclsaac; Secretary-treasurer: Mr. R. Keesing; Auditor: Mr. H. G. Warren; Management Committee: Messrs F. Cameron (United Club), R. Cleland (Paroa Club), J. Rivett, Jun. (Taneatua Club),. T. Dixon (P. and T. Club); Sole selector: Mr. A. Fisher; Grounds committee: Messrs N. E. Rigden, R. Keesing, J. D. Rivett, R. Cleland.

It was decided that opening day should be held on Sunday, October 20, and that the hours of play during the season should be 9.30 a.m. to, 3.30 p.m. With regard to representative games, it was resolved that wherever possible, these should take place on a Saturday.

School cricket was a matter which received some discussion, and it was decided that the Association should approach the School Committee and enquire whether any assistance would be forthcoming from that body in furthering the sport. It was decided also to put forward the suggestion that a game be played on Saturdays between Club members available and school boys. The necessary coaching, it was thought could be arranged.
