WELCOME HOME

NURSE GWEN RANBY SURPRISE PARTY GIVEN The home of Mr and Mrs A. C. Ranby was the scene of a very happy gathering last . Wednesday evening when members of the Edgecumbe Ladies’ Welcome Home Committee and friends of the Ranby family paid a surprise visit toj “Longmoor” to welcome home Miss Gwen Ranby, who has just returned from Egypt, Italy and Japan. Mr B. Topp as Master of Ceremonies, did a splendid job, whilst musical items and dancing kept the party in good spirits. After a sumptuous supper served by the ladies of the Welcome Home Committee Mr Rutherford, an old friend of the family, in a speech of welcome expressed the pleasure of all present at Nurse Ranby’s safe return.

Mrs Alan Marx, President of the Ladies’ Committee, in making a presentation spoke of Nurse Ranby’s work as secretary of the committee before going overseas and hoped that the good wishes of the ladies would in some small measure show the appreciation of the good work she had done. She felt too that a vote of thanks was due to Mr and Mrs Ranby for their hospitality that evening.

Nurse Ranby after thanking all present for their good wishes, gave many interesting highlights on her experiences -back in Italy and Japan but added that it was good to be home again.
