A. & P. SHOW

WHAKATANE & RANGITAIKI ASSOCIATION

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING A sound financial position coupled with better and brighter prospects for the forthcoming year were the saliant features of last Friday evening’s annual meeting of the Whakatane and . Rangitaiki A. and P. Society which took place in the Borough Chambers. The president, Mr W. G. Howat, occupied the chair.

The attendance was good, several members commenting on the apparent growing interest in the show on the part of citizens and residents. The chairman •in welcoming delegates mentioned that the meeting was the thirty-eighth of the Society and that he hoped now the war was over the organisation would go forward to progressively better things as time went on. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs. S. G. Ker, J. Bryant, A. K. Prince and F. Prideaux.

In his annual report Mr Howat said:— It must be with satisfaction that members will receive the Balance Sheet for the past year’s activities. This year’s operations have resulted in an Excess of Income over Expenditure of £2OB 13s after allowing for full depreciation on the Society’s assets and the Accumulated Fund Account now stands at £842 8s 9d. Following the cessation of hostilities it was decided to hold a Victory Show in February of this year. In this connection it is my pleasure to report that it was an outstanding success from both the standard and numbers of exhibits and also on the financial side. The Show was attended by what must have been almost a record attendance of spectators and the gate receipts stand at the high figure of £286 11s 6d while entry fees received totalled £l4O 5s lid. A sub-committee was appointed to meet a sub-committee from the Bay of Plenty Winter Show Association to go into the question of amalgamation with that body. Progress has been made and the sub-commit-tee hopes to be in a position within the near future to report back to the Society with concrete proposals for consideration. My personal thanks go to the committee and other members of the Society who have at all times during the past year ably assisted me in my duties as president. . Election of Officers .

The election of officers resulted as under:—

Patron: Mr W. Sullivan, M.P. President: Mr W. G. Howat. Vice-presidents: Messrs. I. Gow and A. K. Prince.
