ELECTORAL ROLLS

CLOSING NEXT FRIDAY NOTICE TO ELECTORS With the announcement that the main rolls for the general election this year are to close on September 13, the Electoral Department is preparing to handle the usual heavy volume of late applications this week.

All applications for inclusion on the general rolls must be in the hands of the registrar concerned when his office closes on Friday.. Supplementary rolls are automatically open immediately the main lists close. The closing date for the supplementary roll depends upon the dissolution of Parliament.

This year 1250 copies of each of the 76 rolls for the European electorates are to be printed. It is expected that a start will be made with the work on Monday, September 16. In most cases the printing will be done by firms in the various electorates. The general policy in country districts is for the work to be done in the town which is the headquarters of the electorate. Persons qualifying for enrolment after September 13, and before the supplementary roll closes, are entitled to enrol on the latter, which closes at 6 p.m. on the day the writ is issued after the dissolution of Parliament.
