RUGBY FOOTBALL
SHALFOON SHIELD MATCH To meet Te Puke on Saturday at Matata for the Shalfoon Shield, A Rangitaiki is fielding practically the same team which so convincingly defeated Tauranga and Rotorua.. The match commences 2 p.m. anc£' Rugby enthusiasts are assured of SC . sparkling display, weather permitting of course. Since winning the Shield from. Tauranga B (17-0), Rangitaiki have withstood a challenge from Rotorua winning 20 points to 0. In the latter game, spectators were unanimously of the opinion that it was game of Rugby seen in that Union for many months. Both sides gave the ball plenty of air, and action marked the whole encounter.
It is hoped that the home side will hold the Shield, although by far the more important is the game itself, and the sportsmanship displayed. Actually, there is no reason why, with good second line defence and attack, combined with an improvement in backing up, these Rangitaiki Juniors should not create Rugby history by holding the trophy for the first time in the Union’s quarter century of existence.
