NEW HEALTH STAMPS

OUT THIS MONTH This year’s health stamps will probably be on sale on October 24, said the Postmaster-General, Mr Webb. He added that unexpected delays in shipping from England would preclude the stamps being placed on sale earlier. “The basic theme of this year’s stamps is one of tribute to New Zealand’s fighting forces for their part in enabling our children to come safely through the dark days of war to the brighter' years of peace,” said Mr Webb. “The design depicts a New Zealand soldier in battledress helping a child over a stile. The background is a typical New Zealand scene, conjuring suggestions of sunlight, happiness and health. The foreground includes a minor indication of defence precautions. Generally, the design ties up very appropriately with the peace stamps at present on issue.”

The stamps are to be horizontally rectangular, the penny plus halfpenny in dark brown and light brown.
