BADMINTON

AWAKERI VICTORY MATCH AGAINST WHAKATANE Enthusiasm and good spirits ran high at yet another inter-club Badminton match held in the Awakeri Hall recently, when a visiting team from Whakatane was beaten by the home players. Final results were: Awakeri 9 games; Whakatane 3. All games were played in a thoroughly sportsmanlike fashion there being a noted improvement in play on both sides. MacDonald 21; Miss J. Francis and Miss P. Haultain 21 Miss C. Tyssen and Miss J. Graham 20. Combines: Howat and Miss M. Howat 21 MacDonald and Mrs Rust 10; Wilson and Miss J. Following a really delightful supper Mr Bob Rae spoke on behalf of the . Awakeri Club mentioning that next year he hoped Badminton in this district would be once again up to its pre-war standard. He also mentioned the possibilities of district competitions. Such matches, he said, were looked forward to with great keenness by players. Mr Bill Howat with his usual dry humour, suitably replied and thanked the club on behalf of the visitors. An early return match is to be arranged.
