LAUNCH DISAPPEARS

THEFT SUSPECTED Several days ago, a launch in the care of Mr J. Slater,- of Whakatane, disappeared from its mooring at the bid wharf in the Whakatane River. Jfhe vessel is an eighteen foot craft, and is capable of showing a good turn of speed. Recently overhauled, painted and repaired, she was a very attractive little craft. The launch was moored both fore and aft, and both lines have likewise disappeared. It is thought that if the vessel was stolen, the person responsible probably did so to use it for a river passage home. Drawing only eighteen inches or two feet of water, it could be moored in any small creek out of sight. The police are at present making enquiries.
