RABBIT CONTROL

PONGAKAWA BOARD’S ACTIVITIES INSPECTOR’S REPORT In his report to the August meeting of the Pongakawa Rabbit Board the Inspector, Mr C. H. Davies stated that since the last meeting work had been done on the following properties:—Messrs. Downies, McCarthy, Watts, Roberts, Matthews, Ross, Bridge, Lambert, Mikkelson, Drabble, Rimmer, Farrally, . Cawte, Dougherty, Mackey, Blacks, Halcombe, Kohnt, Madigan, Brightwell, Nealson, A. Drabble, Hastie, Magee, Caverhill, Thompson, Ridell, Goldsmith, Morris, Blake, Moody, Haslem, Lambert, Parkes, M. Black, Withy, Pugh, Dixon, Kennon, Kane, Eivers, Bridge, Parkenson, Flood, Hyland, Moore, Burt, Jaffray, Blaymires, Walters, Bowditch, Symons, Bevan, Matchett, C. Thompson, King, Haslem, McKenzie, Cook, Boyd, Wright, Woods, Mexted and Crews. Crown lands in Valley road, Rerewhakaitu, Coast, Rotoma, Edgecumbe and Lakes areas. Native lands in the Edgecumbe, Awakaponga, Rerewhakaitu, Rotomahana, Edgecumbe and Lakes areas. We have poisoned 12,390 acres and fumigated 11,645 acres, using 701bs Cyanogas and 8991bs of Phosphorised Pollard. Wet and unsettled weather has interfered with poisoning operations and we have had to repoison a fairly large area of the Manawahe country where our work has been spoilt by rain. There are still rabbits in the Manawahe area with the worst patches being at the back of Thompson and Lambert’s properties. As we have just finished working the Awakaponga and Coast areas these places are in good order with a few rabbits at the back of Flood’s place, and these will be dealt with during the coming period. The Te Teko area is in fair order with the worst patches on Haslem’s and the back of Bevan’s. The Rerewhakaitu and Roto.mahana country is in good order. The same applies to the Murupara area with the exception of a small area along Grant’s boundary. This area will become infested each spring until such time as the State Forest Lands adjoining are planted.
