MUSICIAN’S AWARD
WE wonder just how far the ridiculous conditions of the Musicians Award (recently published) will affect the social life in the smaller country communities. Designed obviously to cover only those professional musicians who play for a living in the cities, it'would appear that its forcible application in the rural towns is about to spell the ‘Waterloo’ of the friendly services which have been rendered for so long by the local bands in our midst. No social group can possibly afford to pay the exaggerated rates demanded, and expect to carry on. The assertion that even private parties when having a dance or two must comply with the exorbitant rate is something which the Musicians Union are welcome to try and enforce. We certainly do not envy them in their undertaking in this respect.
