Petrol Selling Regulations
Garages may remain open on Friday until the closing hour observed by shops, but they must not sell any petrol after 5.30 p.m. on Mondays to Fridays, or after noon on Saturdays, according ,to evidence given in a prosecution at Napier. A garage proprietor had refused - to conform to the regulations regarding early closing, claiming that the regulations weer obsolete and unnecessary. Mr J. Miller, S.M., said the regulations made were still law, and whether they should be amended v/asa matter for legislation. The defendant was fined £4 respecting a breach on March 29, when he sold four gallons of petrol. The defendant gave an undertaking that he would close his bowser pumps on Friday evenings until the matter was rectified by cancellation or variation of the regulation.
