YOUNG FARMERS

EASTERN BAY OF PLENTY DISTRICT EXECUTIVE MEETS A meeting of the District Executive of the Eastern Bay of Plenty Young Farmers’ Clubs was held recently, delegates being present from Waimana, Thornton, Edgecumbe, Whakatane D.H.S., Awakeri, Otakiri, Taneatua and Federated Farmers Rangitaiki Branch. Mr H. C. White was in the chair. Considerable discussion centred round the various trophies k which are competed for by Young Farmers Clubs. The Eastern Bay, it was. indicated, at present held three of these, consisting of an inter-district debating cup for the Eastern Area of the Auckland Province (Eastern and Western Bay of Plenty and Rotorua); an inter-district debating shield, competed for annually by Eastern and Western Bay of Plenty; and an inter-club debating cup, at present held by Waimana, the champion team of the district and area. Intimation was also given that the District Committee also intended donating an efficiency shield for in-ter-club competition in the Bay of Plenty.

It was resolved that the club winning the inter-district trophies should hold them for one month after the club’s name and the year had been engraved upon them, and after that, they should be handed in to the District Secretary (Mr E. R. Marryatt) who would hold them ! in his office. Waimana at present holds the two cups and the.shield, which are in the process of being engraved. The question of debating was discussed, the opinion of the meeting' being that this side of the club’s activities should not be neglected during the coming months. Clubs were requested to submit suggestions for subjects.

Co-operation with the A. and P. Societies was discussed, and it was decided to instruct the district secretary to seek, representation on the A. and P. Society, in the form of a delegate''from the district committee. This representative was selected in the person of Mr J. Hawken.
