MUSIC FESTIVAL

HAMILTON BAND COMPETITIONS

LOCAL BOYS ENTERED The whole of the Whakatane Boys’ Band is entered for the competitions sponsored by the Hamilton Musical Festival and Competitions Society to commence at Hamilton on August 24, and by dint of constant tuition and practice in preparation for the event, have acquired a high standard. As stated, the festival is scheduled to start on August 24, and will extend through the week, concluding on August 31. Bands and choirs from all parts of New Zealand will be present, and will take part in the various sections. The Whakatane boys are entered for everything possible, and will have a full programme. The soloists will leave for Hamilton on the Friday night in order to be present for the ’Solo Instruments and Duets’ Section on Saturday morning, and the rest of the Band will leave on the Saturday. The Quickstep will be held on the Saturday afternoon, whilst the Quartettes and Test Selections will take place on the Saturday evening at the Frankton Town Hall, commencing at 7.30 p.m.

The display of massed bands and choirs will take place on Sunday afternoon at the A. and P. Showgrounds, and the Hymn Test will be held in the Theatre Royal on Sunday evening, commencing at 8.15 p.m.

The standard of playing reached by the boys has improved considerably over the past few months, particularly as a result of experience gained on the recent trip to Christchurch, made by some of the members of the Band to compete in competitions, and we feel confident that not only will they acquit themselves well at Hamilton, but that they will also be a distinct credit both to their Bandmaster, Mr, W. Jarrett, and to the town.
