REHABILITATION AID

TOTAL AUTHORISATIONS By the end of June sums totalling £31,280,903 had bedn authorised for all rehabilitation purposes, states the Rehabilitation Department. By far the mosh of this—more than £23,000,000 —comprised loan authorisations to ex-servicemen and women. Of the remainder, almost £5,00,000 was for the purchase of lands for settlement and the development and other expenses involved. Trade training accounted for a further £1,730,000, education £560,000 farm training over £200,000 rehabilitation allowances over £400,000, and more than £250,000 for the rehabilitation of Maori ex-service-men who hase sought assistance under the special provisions for Maoris apart from those assisted through the normal channels.

Other authorisations as at the end of June were: Grants to Disabled Servicemen’s Re-establishment League £52,000, blinded servicemen £21,065, special grants £21,347, exservicemen’s travelling an removal expenses £20,839, intermediate scheme for temporarily disabled men £17,923, and exchange on overseas separation allowances £852.
