FARMS FOR BALLOT

AMONG EX-SERVICEMEN A further four farms are to be ballotted for early this month among ex-servicemen of the recent war who have been graded “A” in the districts and for the type of farming concerned. Two of the farms are in the Auckland Land District and one each in the - Wellington and Canterbury Land Districts respectively.

Those in the Auckland district are dairy units, each of over 100 acres, in what is known as the Seven Oaks Farm Settlement, near Cambridge. The ordinary loan limits fixed for applications by ex-ser-vicemen for financial assistance do not apply in either case, but concession rates of rent and interest will be available only up to the extent of the limits, with ordinary rates applying for excess advances. The successful applicants will have the option of a renewable leasehold or a freehold on agreement for sale and purchase. Both sections have residences and outbuildings. The farm in the Wellington Land District is part of the Tawanui Settlement, situated about 15 miles from Feilding. It is a mixed sheep and dairy unit, and the successful applicant wil first work on a wages basis until necessary improvements have been effected, when he will be offered a title. He will also be required t 8 purchase at Crown valuation any of the Crown’s stock and chattels, allocated or which may be allocated to his section.

Situated seven miles south-east of Rakaia, in mid-Canterbury, the fourth farm is a sheep and cropping unit of 550 acres. It has a fiveroomed dwelling and necessary outbuildings. The whole section is flat land which is easily cultivated, there again, an option of renewable leasehold or freehold on agreement for sale and purchase is being offered.
