EX-SERVICE BURSARIES
PGR OVERSEAS STUDIES i ' A further 21 ex-servicemen were granted bursaries during the month of June enabling them to journey overseas under the Rehabilitation Board’s overseas bursaries scheme, says a statement from the Rehabilitation Department. This brought the total granted until the end of that month to 387. The bursaries are to a value of £250 a year stei'ling plus living and other expenses. Of those so far granted 118 have been for studies in post-graduate medicine, the next highest being 30 for Doctorate of Philosophy. Other subjects, there being 31 in all, range from architecture and town planning to veterinary science, and from nursing to public and local administration.
Altogether there are 13,113 exservicemen and women who, until the end of June, had received some form of educational assistance from the Board. Of these 2336 were for full-time bursaries within New Zealand, the remainder being for .parttime courses, for fees and books and miscellaneous grants. For those approved for full-time studies an allowance of £3 3s a week is made for single men and £5 5s a .week for married men.
