SERVICES RECOGNISED
W AIM AN A LADIES HONOURED PRESENTATIONS MADE Oportunity was taken at the recent welcome home reception to servicemen held at Waimana, to pay tribute to the work of Mesdames Wylde and King', on the Waimana Patriotic Committee during the war years, and presentations of a silver fruit bowl were made to each. “I think tonight is a fitting occasion to mark the work of these two ladies who have done so much for the Patriotic Committee in this district,” said Mr J. L. Burnett, in making the presentations. “It is a difficult thing to sort out two ladies from among so many untiring workers, but I can say without any hesitation that Mrs King and Mrs Wylde have peformed a task, possibly unexcelled in the Bay of Plenty.” Mrs Wylde, he continued, in addition to her other work, had also been Secretary of the Waimana Patriotic Committee, and the Waimana representative on the Zone Committee.
In making the presentations, Mr Wardlaw added that even though the activities of the Patriotic Committee might have finished, the organisation had fulfilled another purpose in cementing a bond which would never be broken. He was sure that both Mrs Wylde and Mrs King would find a worthy cause towards which they could direct their activities in the future.
Mrs Wylde replied suitably, expressing both her own thanks, and those of Mrs King.
