RED CROSS DANCE

SUCCESSFUL OTAKIRI FUNCTION CHILDREN IN FANCY DRESS On Saturday, July 27, the Otakiri Red Cross branch ran a successful Children’s Fancy Dress Dance. In spite of the rain the children, with their parents " and friends gathered in good numbers and the hall presented a gay scene of happy youngsters in all sorts of fancy costume. In the early part of the evening the children entertained themselves and the spectators with games and dancing, these being interspersed with items by Pat Winters, piano solo; Peter Revell, violin solo; Doreen Bartin, dance; and Jill Jessup, recitation. Choosing the prize winners was a difficult task for the judges as the standard was high and. very even. Prizes for costumes were awarded as follows: 10 years and over, Best girl, Beverley Steenson; best boy, Dick Jessup and Erskine Sandilands, equal. Under 10 years: Best girl, Nana and Bobbie Ley; best boy, Roy Winters. Under five years: Best girl, Daphne King; best boy, Kieth Thomas. Most Original Costume: GnT, Dawn Peck; boy, Nelson King. Raffles were won by Mr R. Cobden, dinner; Mr R. Wallen, fruit cake; Miss V. Griffiths, sweet.
