To Grace Australian Trip Prince Fox, purchased at the National Sale for 2000 guineas on behalf of a Sydney sportsman, has been taken up by P. Spratt at Trentham, but will later be shipped to Australia. Offer Declined An offer of 2500 guineas made by a Manawatu trainer for the hack Alomode has been declined by the owner Mr G. Forrest, of Palmerston. A Progressive Move The Canterbury Jockey Club has instituted at Riccarton a large veterinary clinic with laboratory attached. This will rank as the first in the Dominion, and will be appreciated by both owners and trainers. Retired Abbey Fox has been retired from the turf. By Foxbridge—Precision she was bred by Mr P. O’Donoghue of Te Aroha. Trained throughout by S. G. Lindsay the mare won over £4340 in stakes. An Outspoken Official The vice-president of the Southland Racing Club stated at the annual meeting that for every race the club ran at its course the Government took £SOO, which served to relieve the taxation of those who opposed racing. Now in Open Class The Ellerslie trained Mallee by Marie’s Acre is now out of hacks having won three races in a short period. As a yearling she was paraded at the National Sale, and passed in at the munificent sum of . 30 guineas. Apparently someone missed a bargain. Broken Down The Tidol mare, Tideover, who was confidently expected to race prominently at the National fixture, has broken down, and may not be raced again. Riders Threaten a Strike Prior to the running of the Rosebank Hurdles at Marton the jockeys refused to ride unless the hurdles were given a proper slant. The officials were not at all willing to have the race time delayed, but the Stipendiary adopted “the line of least resistance” and gave permission for the alterations to be made. With the exception of Whackie the contestants jumped the obstacles satisfactorily, but the big fellow showed his contempt by knocking them down, one by one.
