STH. AUCKLAND CENTRE
ST. JOHN AMBULANCE INTERESTS WHAKATAtffc LINKS UP A ccmmdft decision to link up with the recently created South Auckland Centre of the St. John Ambulance Asociation, was arrived at last week at the annual mefetihf of the Whaka= tane branch. On the instruction of the Dominion Commandary Commissioner, A. Cobbe, and Mr T. Parker, Chairman of the South Auckland Centre, attended and addressed the meeting. Both speakers pointed out that when the South Auckland was formed into a t separate centre last December, the Auckland Centre objected to the Bay of Plenty being included in the area allocated. It was therefore decided to learn from the branches concerned, their own respective wishes in the matter. They could remain in the South Auckland area if they so desired or else they could be transferred to Auckland as an isolated pocket of territory in the'southern centre. It was pointed out that Tauranga and Te Puke were desirous of remaining in the South Auckland district from the point of viey of better administration and accessability to headquarters.
Both officers were warm in their praises of the work of the Whakatane branch in building the splendid new hall, which they claimed was a monument to their enprgy and initiative and a standing example to all other branches in the district. After a brief, discussion it was unanimously decided on the motion of Messrs. D. Paterson and® Vic Allen to remain in the South Auckland and to notify tlie Commandery of this decision.
