SCOUT JAMBOREE

HELD IN FRANCE IN 1947 LOCAL PLANS COMMENCED Now that Dominion Scout Headquarters have received definite intimation from the French Government that for political reasons alone it is imperative to continue with plans for the World Scout Jamboree in 1947, all Scout Districts are advised to commence with tangible plans for the despatch of a certain number of boys with the proposed New Zealand Contingent.

The French Government has offered to act as host to the first World Jamboree following World War 11., and it is anticipated that over 30,000 Scouts from all countries will attend. The site is a bend on the River Seine some 50 miles from Paris near a castle where Rommel held his headquarters, whilst in France.

No restrictions have been placed upon the number composing the New Zealand contingent but the cost per Scout is heayy, and though it has not been fixed finally has been given out as substantially under £2OO per boy. Whatever the sum it will be up to the districts concerned to see that the full quota of boys from within its area is despatched. It is anticipated that the contingent will be away three months, the date of the actual Jamboree being from August 9th to 21st. All Scouts must be under the age of 17 years and over 14 years. Special enquiries are being made as to the number of Rover Scouts which could be included.

Further details will be given later as they come to hand. In the meantime the Bay of Plenty County Council which will meet on August 17 at Tauranga will immediately inaugurate a ‘Jamboree’ fund for the purpose of subsidising and assisting all approved candidates who may be coming forward from the various Scout centres in the Bay.
