Golden Crowned Tui
A tui with a golden crown has been seen in a Titirangi garden by a member of the Forest and Bird Protection Society. He was an exquisite bird, and was later joined by his bride, who was more soberly arrayed. They stayed in the garden for some months and during this time the head colouring did not vary. The male became very tame, and would sip syrup from a cup held in the hand. The unusual colouring was formed of tiny orange feathers which shaded to white against the skin.
