WAIMANA NEWS

WELCOME HOME AND GIFT EVENING The Waimana Hall was the scene of a most pleasant dance recently when Miss Meryl Grover was welcomed home, after serving for about 18 months as a W.A.A.C. in Egypt and Italy. The function was also a gift evening to Mr and Mrs E. McGillivray, who were married recently. The Waimana orchestra supplied the dance music and Mr F. Sterling acted as M.C. Extras were played by Mr A. Bell and Mr McGillivray. After supper, Mr Roland White, with well chosen words, extended a hearty welcome to the guests. Firstly he asked Miss Grover to accept a gift from all present, as a small appreciation of what she had done for her country here and overseas in the years of war. Miss Grover very suitably responded and thanked all for the lovely evening and gift both of which were greatly appreciated. She also thanked members of the Patriotic Committee for parcels received while overseas. On behalf of all present, Mr White wished Mr and Mrs McGillivray the best of good luck in the future and asked them to receive the many valuable and useful gifts from the residents of Nukuhou North and Waimana.

Mr McGillivray thanked all for the pleasant evening and also the gifts received. All joined in singing “For They Are Jolly Good Fellows” and dancing continued until midnight.
