INDOOR BASKETBALL
CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND Commencing at 6.30 p.m. Wednesday 31st inst., the first round of the Whakatane Championship will be started. Men’s games will be of 4 nine minute spells, with 1 minute between quarters. Ladies will be 4 seven-minute spells. Any team more than 5 minutes late will default, while a general rule has been made whereby teams which are late will be penalised by 1 penalty throw for each minute overdue.
The following is the draw for the 31st:—
• 6.30 p.m.: Gremlins v Gymnasium (men). Referees: M. Duley, R. Duley. Scorers: J. Gattsche, Miss M. Farrell.
7.10 p.m.: Druids v W.S.Q. (ladies). 7.40: Pirates v Druids (men). 8.20: Terrors v Myra Tawa (ladies).' 8.50: United v Terrors (men). 9.30 onwards:. Coaching and scratch games. Games Organiser: Mr R. Julian. Scorers: Misses M. Farrell, M. Hall, C. Mexted, Messrs. B. McGougan, A. Head, J. Gattsche. Referees: Miss C. Zinsli, Messrs. L. Boyd, M. Duley, R. Duley, P. Dixon, D. Luxton. Doorkeepers (for 31st only): Pirates team. United and Terrors men’s teams are to be made up from all who are not already definitely included in the other teams. Everyone is assured of regular games. Any time available after completion of the games will be taken up by scratch fixtures and specialised instruction by Mr L. Boyd. Players should take careful note of starting times to avoid penalties. Spectators will be charged only 6d admission to all championship games.
