HUNTING

WHAKATANE CLUB MEET DAY AT TE TEKO The second meet of the Whakatane Hunt Club took place at Te Teko on Wednesday last and although heavy rain fell almost continuously till early in the afternoon a field of between 50 and 60 riders turned out and enjoyed a good day’s sport.

The course lay along the Awaken side of the Rangitaiki River and almost immediately a hare was raised which led the hunt for a shortfast run before being lost in scrub. Hares were very plentiful and several good runs started but owing to an abundance of cover they were soon lost.

The heavy rain also made the scent very hard to follow. The jumping was of a high standard and the nature of the country ideal for hunting. The ladies of the district were well to the fore and supplied a very welcome morning and afternoon tea in the Te Teko Hall and so ended another fine day’s sport which it is quite evident is going to be very popular in this district.
