BAY OF PLENTY CLUB INTERESTING JULY MEETING Growing interest in the recently formed Bay of Plenty Philatelic Club was evidenced at the July meeting which took place in the Borough Council Chambers last Wednesday evening. Seventeen members attended. The vice-president, Mr Coates, presided in the absence of the president (Mr H, O. Garaway) and welcomed members. Offers to loan exhibition sets of stamps for purposes of display were announced by the secretary (Mr T. Dixon) who mentioned that one of these included a substantial collection of ‘ship’ stamps and another of ‘bird’ stamps. A number of display sheets were also handed round. A talk on the celebrated Serbian (Jugoslavakian) Centennial stamp (the ‘deathmask’) wherein the designer made it possible to see the features of the recently murdered King Alexander by reversing the stamp was given by Mr C. KingsleySmith. A humorous dessertation on ‘Watermarks’ was given by Mr K. Hannah. The “auction’ which is the concluding feature of all meetings saw some good specimens change hands.

It was decided to recommend the executive to promote if possible a talk on full-faced New Zealand issues for next meeting.
