LAST TRICK KILLED HIM

FRENCH WRESTLER'S DEATH

A French wrestler killed himself with his favourite trick, in the ring at Belle Vue, Manchester, because his opponent stood still, mystified. He was Martin Schutz, aged 32, of High Road, E. Finchley, London and he died in hospital after the bout. At the inquest in Manchester the referee, Mr J. R. Rodgers, said Schutz was very strong and one of the cleverest wrestlers in the country.

His favourite trick was to run from one corner of the ring to another, run up the ropes, and throw himself backwards, pushing himself off the ropes with his feet. Nine times out of ten his opponent followed him, .and was knocked down.

This time the opponent stood still, and when Schutz hurled himself backwards his head struck the floor.

A verdict of death by misadvenure was recorded.
