WHAKATANE MEN'S CLUB The qualifying round for the Fortune and Founders Cups were played last Saturday and the draw for the match play in the above cups will be posted in the clubhouse in the weekend and will appear also in next Wednesday's Beacon. The President's trophy for the best nett score in the qualifying round was won by Bryan Butler 97—28—69. His next round will be from the 26 mark. A most successful mixed tournament was held on Sunday, 90 players participating including visitors from Opotiki, Te Teko and Waimana The course was in excellent order and the weather was good and consequently the standard of play was, in the main, fairly good. The results were as follows: — Ladies' Stableford: Mrs Symmans, Senior; Miss Mansell, Junior.

Men's Stableford: Connell, Senior; Moore, Junior. Mixed Canadian Foursome: D. Luxton and Miss Hyland. The highlight of the play was a hole in one by D. C. Morpeth at the 14th hole. This is the second occasion on which he has holed his tee shot, the other time being pre-war. Next weekend three Professionals Messrs. Guy, Allban and Girling are visiting the club and will be coaching on Saturday all day and on Sunday morning.

On Sunday afternoon Messrs. Guy and Allbon will be playing an exhibition match and all golfers and interested non golfers are cordially invited to see this game which will start at approximately 1.15 p.m. Spectators are assured of seeing a very high standard of golf and much interest will be taken in the driving of A. Guy who is renowned for his colossal hitting.
