RUGBY FOOTBALL
WHAKATANE UNION RESULTS PAROA’S STRONG LEAD UGLY JUNIOR INCIDENTClub football under the Whakatane Union advanced a further stage last Saturday when Rugby in all grades continued to draw large attendances. Only at Waimana where Poroporo defaulted, was there any indication of a falling off in interest. On all other grounds fair Rugby was to be seen, with a steady development of individual play in most teams.
Enthusiasts will deplore the incident which took place on. the junior field Poroporo v United in the Whakatane Domain, when at the final whistle an irresponsible section of the spectators attacked the referee, in an actual endeavour to manhandle. They desisted only when other spectators attracted by the disgraceful episode approached. The matter will doubtless be handled by the Union, firmly, we hope in the interests of Rugby and its future in this town.
