WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

MEETING AT MATATA The Matata Women’s Institute held its usual monthly meeting on June 26, Despite the rain arid cold there was a large number of members and friends present.

Remits for the Dominion Conference were discussed and delegates received their voting instructions. The President, Mrs Rolfe Withy, then presented Mrs Ansell with her “Long Service” badge and expressed the wish of all present that she would enjoy many more years of membership. A short play entitled “Grandmothers are so simple” staged by four members was the entertainment for the afternoon. This was very amusing and thoroughly enjoyed by all. Competition results for the day were as follows: Best flower, Mrs Parkinson 1; Mrs H. Withy 2; Mrs Wilson 3. Best vegetable, Mrs Smith 1; Mrs li. Withy 2; Mrs Taylor 3. Peg apron made out of sugar bag, Mrs Ansell 1; Mrs McGill 2; Mrs Wilson 3. Plain scones, Mrs R. Withy 1; Mrs Frost 2; Mrs Ansell 3. Vase winter decorations, Mrs R. Withy 1; Mrs Wilson 2.
