ROD AND GUN CLUB

RECENT CORRESPONDENCE REPLY TO CRITICISM We have been interviewed by both the President and the Secretary of the Whakatane Rod and Gun Club with reference to the recent letter appearing in these columns over the signature ‘Member’. We have been asked to afford space in which to reply to the criticism which was ventilated and to correct an apparent misunderstanding. Mr J. D. Rivett, the President, stated that the information regarding the two trophies (Ist and 2nd) awarded Mr C. Zinsli for the heaviest Rainbow Trout secured by a member of the Club was announced at the Annual Smoko, and that it was reported in the Beacon. We can verify that fact by reference to our files covering the report. With regard to the suggestion that the second trophy was rumoured to be valued at £5, both officers claim that our correspondent was probably confused with another trophy, donated by Mr Hudson of Cutlers Hardware. The actual weight competition drew only one entrant - (Mr Zinsli) in spite of periodic reminders through this paper, and the two fish which won the prizes were weighed by officers of the club. On the President’s invitation, the writer (if he is a financial member) is invited to attend the next meeting of the executive and make a thorutes and records. He states that a ough inspection of the club’s minutes and ■ records. He states that a full explanation will be available to him, and freely given in answer to his queries, as the executive is anxious to learn in as friendly a manner as possible the reason for any misunderstandings and unfounded rumours which may be abroad.
