Awakeri Monte Carlo Competition Tomorrow evening (Saturday,. June 29) the sixth and last heat in the £6 Monte Carlo competition staged at A wakeri will be danced. Winners so far to date are as follows: Mr Ray Dawson and Miss Heather Bell; Mr J. Johnson and Miss Kane; Mr M. Jensen and Miss Luttrell; Mr Skerrett and Miss Tong; Mr Gear and Miss Phillips. The greatest interest is centred around the finalists who will dance off at a future date to be named.

Appreciation to Captain Cabin Members of the 1946 Royal Revue Company who were responsible for Wednesday’s concert are unanimous in their praise for the manner in which the manager of the Captain’s Cabin Cabaret, Ohope Beach, made his premises available for all rehearsals. Mr Errol Lees, not only provided the accommodation but also made complimentary suppers available to all the caste. Their grateful acknowledgment is hereby expressed.

Whakatane Badminton Club The newly formed Whakatane Badminton Club opened last Thursday evening in the Caledonian Hall where a good crowd of members, together with visitors from the Awakeri and Thornton Clubs mustered for an evening of games. Play was good, and a thoroughly enjoyable time resulted. The light supper, which was served by the ladies present was very much appreciated, and when play resumed, it did so with noticeably renewed vigour. Prospective players for the Whakatane Club number approximately twenty-five, and represent two good strong teams, one ladies’ and one men’s.

Life Saving Club Renewed interest in the revival of the - Whakatane Surf and Life Saving Club, which was so active at Ohope Beach for many years may be gathered from an advertisement in today’s issue and His Worship the Mayor is to be warmly congratulated in convening the first meeting for the purpose of re-establishing the club. Older members, most of whom have seen service are keen it<s See the Ohope pavilion put to its proper use again, and young men from 18 to 25, or others who feel that they can be of use in this service are urged to make a point of being present.
