MATAMATA TEAM DEFEATED REVIEW OF MATCHES Last Thursday evening, Whakatane successfully defended the Snooker Cup against a challenge from Matamata, the visiting team winning one game only. Results were as follows, Matamata names being mentioned first in each case:— Robinson 32 lost to T. Morgan 60; H. Smith 56 beat Keepa 32; Dalziel 28 lost to Keesing 70; Fawkes 28 lost to McGarvey 51; Yanko 34 lost to Hona 55. An exhibition match between the South Auckland Champion, C. Smith and J. Thompson (Whakatane) was watched with interest, the latter registering a win over the champion, 70—36. A review of the matches played by the Whakatane team since it first lifted the Cup some months ago from Opotiki proves that the Whakatane side must be represented by players of a high standard. In all, Opotiki has been beaten three times, Rotorua twice, Ruatoki once, Matata once, Te Teko once, and now Matamata. , Messrs. F. Cameron and A. Linwood capably filled the roles of announcer and marker respectively.
