PEN-FRIENDS WANTED

YOUNG GREEK WRITERS CORSO Headquarters in Wellington have a list of 34 young Greek men and women who seek pen-fri-ends in New Zealand. The list was forwarded by Mr G. H. Gilling, Leader of CORSO’s relief refugee team, who is stationed at Kavalla near Salonica. Ages of these young Greeks vary from 15 to 29 years and 13 of theip. comprise a group of UNRRA office staff employees at Kavalla and Salonica. Many went to the American College in Salonica before the war and all speak English with varying degrees of proficiency and are anxious to improve their written English. Their hobbies range from languages to sports, music and dancing and, adds Mr Gilling “many of the girls are most attractive.” Twenty-one students at the Kavalla Training School are also seeking New Zealand pen-friends. Their interest in New Zealand has been stimulated by English classes given in his spare time by Mr J. T. McDevitt who is interpreter with the CORSO Unit. Mr McDevitt, an exKiwi, saw service in Greece in 1941 and was hidden on Crete for nearly two years from the Germans by a Greek family. Details of the names, addresses and interests of these prospective pen-friends may be had from CORSO, Box 11 Government Buildings, Post Office.
